Coronavirus: Pompéi, the exhibition at the Grand Palais from your home

Because of the coronavirus epidemic, no Pompéi exhibition so far at the Grand Palais, but it didn’t prevent the cultural venue from offering a digital version of this great retrospective. To discover from March 25th, 2020 as of noon.

Did you plan to go and see the Pompéi exhibition at the Grand Palais? But because of the coronavirus, your plans fell through. The Rmn-Grand Palais (Réunion des Musées Nationaux or National Museum Reunion – Grand Palais) thinks about you and provides you with a digital part of the exhibition on its website starting from March 25th, 2020 as of noon. You can then discover the different contents in premiere, through an immersive and digital exhibition you’ll discover at the Grand Palais once the health crisis over.

From March 25th then, art and history fans will be able to discover four videos from the exhibition (to watch on  YouTube)  in which visitors are immersed “into the universe of new excavations and new discoveries, the restoration of a mosaic, the 3D reconstruction of a house and a garden, and the magnificent discoveries of the house of Orion”. Podcast enthusiasts are not left out since the exhibition’s (in French) are available to download for free.

A part of the exhibition’s catalog will also be put online for free so that you can access to videos via the “augmented catalog” edited on the occasion. For statue fans, the Statue of Livia, one of the icons of this great retrospective is accessible in augmented reality “to enjoy at home, restored, on your smartphones with virtual decorative borders”. Historic drawings and photographs of Pompei are also to be discovered thanks to the Paris Fine Arts collection’s funds.

As for children, online games are available such as a trivia quiz about Pompei, a puzzle of the eruption, a puzzle of a mosaic as well as a “find the mistakes” game and a booklet. And to learn more about this city and its history, you can download the Pompei teaching file on Panorama de l’Art and read “a tour guide on domus, moldings, some works and daily life in Pompei”.
