For the 4th edition of its Cité des Sens festival, the Cité des Sciences invites us to discover one of our senses: sight, during a weekend of events and educational workshops focusing on our eyes, from September 9 to 10.

Perhaps you wear glasses, are myopic, hypermetropic or astigmatic... Aftersmell andhearing, it's sight that the Cité des Sciences invites us to study at the 4th edition of its Cité des Sens festival, on Saturday September 9 and Sunday September 10 , 2023. An opportunity to discover vision from every angle and every angle, with a wide range of events on the program.

On September 9 and 10, 2023, you'll discover your eyesight as you've never seen it before: by learning how our eyes work, what their anatomy is, and how sight impacts our daily lives if it's poor! You'll be able to experiment with optical illusions, light shows and more. What's on the program? Photographic workshops, children's activities, installations (mirror games, optical illusions...), scientific demonstrations and the chance to explore the Cité's permanent exhibitions, such as Cerveau, wearing special glasses.

On the evening of Friday September 8, don't miss the musical nocturne "Les silencieuses", where the public is invited, headphones firmly on, to discover a preview of secret installations. With the kids, try your hand at Braille in a workshop, learn to see like animals, or discover how to make a photogram or flipbook!

What's more, you can also take advantage of your visit to the Cité des Sciences during the event to have your eyes tested by teams from the Rotschild Hospital ophthalmology department.

To fill up on sight-related activities and entertainment, head to the Cité des Sciences this Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10, 2023!

Activities for children

It disappears!

But where do things go when they disappear? Magic tricks to help answer this question.

Ages 2 and up

Braille workshop

An introduction to Braille, a tactile writing system with raised dots for use by the blind and partially sighted.

Ages 6 and up

Tactile drawing

How do you draw when you can't see? Using a punch and a special tablet, little visitors draw a picture of what they'll be able to touch with their eyes closed, when the sheet is turned over.

Ages 5 and up

Animal vision

How does the bee see the flower? And what's the strange world of the eight-eyed spider? As for the nocturnal cat, does it see life in pink? A whole series of experiments to put you in the place of what animals see.

Ages 6 and up

From egg to ladybug

What does a ladybug look like before she puts on her pretty polka-dot dress? From egg to adult, young visitors can discover the metamorphosis of this popular insect by creating a small booklet.

Image workshops (all ages)

Photogram

The program includes the creation of a photogram, a photo without a camera, in which objects placed on photosensitive paper leave curious white and gray imprints. The image is gradually revealed during development...

From age 6

Pinhole

After the photogram, the public experiences the camera obscura, the origin of photography, and the pinhole, its derivative.

Ages 9 and up

Prussian blue

Visitors produce a cyanotype: a "Prussian blue" photographic print made from a photograph they take on site.

Open to all

Light painting

Artist Jadikan introduces visitors to light painting, a technique for capturing and modeling light.

Open to all

3D glasses

Make your own 3D glasses!

Open to all

Virtual reality

In this VR headset workshop, visitors push the limits of their visual senses and test their balance...

Discovering stereoscopy

What is stereoscopy and what is its history? An interactive timeline looks back at the history of stereoscopy, from the 3D viewers of 1838 to the present day.

For the general public

Flipbook

In this workshop, visitors design their own flipbook: facing the camera, they create a short video that becomes a small booklet that animates when the pages are turned.

Scientific mediation

From the eye to the image

What is the eye made of? How do we perceive colors? And how is the brain involved in vision? Learn more about how the eyes and brain work, and discover the explanations behind certain optical illusions.

Ages 8 and up

Colors

Cyan, yellow, magenta or red, green, blue? The public takes part in a series of surprising experiments to understand the notion of color according to the physicist or the artist, as well as the role of the eye and the brain in its perception.

Ages 8 and up

Connected glasses

Experts present the use of connected glasses in scientific research. In partnership with Essilor Tête-à-tête Whether it's cognitive neuroscience, the physical properties of light or innovations in visual restoration systems, experts present the latest in scientific research through a series of mind-boggling experiments. In partnership with CNRS and Essilor Take a look at this! Disturbing experiments, mirages, color blindness, 3D cinema, colors, painting... How does vision work in our everyday lives?
