Do you love photography, and are you always on the lookout for young talent to follow? To satisfy all your desires, all you have to do is visit the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, and take advantage of the exhibitions on offer! From July 21 to October 1, 2023, the MEP will be honoring British photographer Rachel Fleminger Hudson.
The artist's eponymous exhibition is presented in the Studio, the space for emerging creation. Here, visitors can admire several series of photographs reflecting the work and world of Rachel Fleminger Hudson. The young photographer, winner of the Prix Dior de la Photographie et des Arts Visuels for Jeunes Talents 2022, takes us into a colorful, lively andhumorous world.
For her very first solo exhibition, the artist has chosen special shots that represent her world, her way of seeing those around her. The photographer questions the models of the past, plays with theauthentic and the fake, calls into question practices applauded and praised by experts.
Rachel Fleminger Hudson likes to surprise viewers, blur the lines and play with our certainties. Many of her images seem to have been taken on the spot, capturing a precious instant, a fleeting moment of beauty. In reality, each shot is skilfully staged by the artist. In other series, the British artist fully assumes this orchestration of the image: all her humor and sense of detail are then deployed in these often surprising photos.
Through her work, the artist also seeks to question society's identities, norms and expectations, and above all, the ephemeral nature of these induced rules. In these highly calculated photographs, it is ultimately the search for freedom and individuality that expresses itself.
