Les Orientalistes, the Atelier des Lumières exhibition that takes us on a journey to the Orient - photos

In the 19th century, Westerners were thirsty for adventure, dreaming of the exotic worlds of theOrient. These fascinating, faraway cultures soon became the passion of artists. Travel or imagination, fantasy or reality: it doesn't matter what the source, as long as the painting makes the viewer dream.

L'Atelier des Lumières invitesus to follow in the footsteps of these famous painters, known as the Orientalists, in a unique immersive exhibition on view from February 9, 2024 to January 5, 2025. We meet up with Vernet, Constant, Ingres, Delacroix, Richter, Gérôme, Dinet, Guillaumet and many others on this journey to the far reaches of the Orient.

Arid deserts, cities of rich, colorful architecture, souks overflowing with merchandise, verdant gardens, dances, hammams, wild animals, music, gaudy fabrics...
