Changes are afoot at the Louvre... And they won't be to everyone's taste. The famous institution has announced an increase in its admission fees, starting in January 2024.

The Louvre remains Paris' busiest museum in 2023... And it is preparing to welcome even more people in 2024. In anticipation of this expected influx, the institution has decided toincrease its admission rates for visitors, from 17 to 22 euros for the full rate, an increase of five euros.

In a press release, the museum's president, Laurence des Cars, gives her annual assessment: the museum welcomed over 8.7 million visitors in 2023, of whom 3.6 million came free of charge. Among them were young people under 26, jobseekers, teachers, disabled people, art world professionals... By 2024, the institution expects to welcome almost nine million visitors, maintaining its current daily capacity of 30,000.

To accommodate more visitors while maintaining the same capacity, the Louvre has set up a number of events: evening events, festivals, guided tours, school visits... All of which entail additional costs, explains the museum's director.

So, " to support this major effort to open up to its local public and maintain a satisfactory quality of welcome, (...) while coping with rising costs (example: +88% in energy expenses), the Musée du Louvre is announcing new pricing in 2024, with an admission ticket at 22 euros. This new rate will take effect from January 15, 2024. "

The Musée du Louvre is also announcing that - exceptionally - it will remain open until 8 p.m. from December 28, 2023 to January 6, 2024, to enable all Parisians and visiting visitors to enjoy the museum during the festive season.
