Did you know? The largest postal sorting center in France is located in Île-de-France, specifically in Wissous, in the Essonne department. Step behind the scenes of this unusual, often off-limits facility with a guided tour organized by La Poste and Explore Paris.
For 2 hours and 30 minutes, you can explore the inner workings of a mail sorting facility to see how a letter or package makes its way to your mailbox. You’ll also get a behind-the-scenes look at the machines and the staff who work tirelessly every day in this center. Each day, more than 6 million items pass through the Paris-Sud-Wissous Mail Processing Center (PIC), which sorts incoming and outgoing mail for the Essonne department, the Val-de-Marne, part of the Hauts-de-Seine region, as well as nine districts in southern Paris.
Plan to pay 5 € per person to get an inside look at this sorting facility. Please note: for safety reasons, special footwear will be provided to all visitors during the tour, and a minimum shoe size of 36 is required. Enjoy your visit!
