This huge flying saucer, or Futuro House, designed byarchitect Matti Suuronen in 1968, is certainly the most unusual object on the Saint-Ouen flea market. After landing at the Dauphine Flea Market in 2012 (following its acquisition by Benoît Ramognino of the Velvet Galerie), it is now the market's emblem.
In 1968, one of Matti Suuronen's friends commissioned him to create this unusual and innovative project, which ultimately resulted in around 100 units being produced worldwide, making the Futuro House a highly valuable item due to its rarity. The model on display at the Saint-Ouen flea market is orange, while the other copies are white, yellow, turquoise, and more.
Before being exhibited at the flea market, the Futuro House was actually a mobile home for vacations. While some people rent mobile homes, campers, and converted vans, others call on renowned architects to create unique designs that can be dismantled and reassembled at will. Inspired by the concept of tiny houses, the Futuro House is particularly innovative, as it can be moved to hard-to-reach places, such as snow-covered mountainsides, can withstand extreme temperatures of up to -20°C, and can be dismantled and reassembled an infinite number of times!
Unfortunately, the Futuro House on display at the Marché Dauphine is not open to visitors, but if you happen to be passing by the Saint-Ouen flea market, stop by and take a look!
