The Fête des Parcs et Jardins in Barbizon returns for its fifth edition on the weekend of April 18 and 19, 2026, in Seine-et-Marne. This free event celebrates nature and biodiversity around the theme of "Gardens of the World," highlighting the links between civilizations and gardens.

The Barbizon Parks and Gardens Festival, famous for its pre-Impressionist painting school, explores the diversity of links between civilizations, philosophies, and gardens this year. On the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, the village of Barbizon in Seine-et-Marne opens its doors for a spring stroll that promises wonderful exchanges. Once a source of inspiration for painters such as Théodore Rousseau and Jean-François Millet, this iconic village now hosts one of the must-see events for nature lovers in Île-de-France.

After four editions that explored urban greening, trees, and landscapes, the 2026 event will showcase the Gardens of the World. This universal theme invites us to discover how each civilization develops its own relationship with gardens, reflecting its philosophies and worldview. From Persian gardens created 6,000 years ago to Japanese Zen gardens, Greek philosophers' gardens, and Islamic gardens, each culture has its own unique way of gardening and organizing nature. This approach reminds us that the art of gardening is deeply linked to the societies that imagine them.

Located in the Gâtinais Français Regional Nature Park, Barbizon remains the charming village that saw the birth of the pre-Impressionist movement. Just ten minutes from Fontainebleau, it's the perfect opportunity for a family nature getaway. The bucolic atmosphere of the place, with its vast wooded properties and picturesque streets, provides the ideal setting for this celebration of plants.

Around the town hall, some sixty exhibitors will gather: nursery growers from all over France, landscapers, horticulturists, associations dedicated to gardening and biodiversity, artists, and local artisans. The aim has remained the same since the event was created in 2022 by Gérard Taponat, mayor of Barbizon: to show that the environment and the aesthetics of nature are sources of joy and well-being for all. It's an opportunity to take a stroll and discover heritage sites such asthe Auberge Ganne and the Jean-François Millet House and Studio.

Numerous activities will complement the sales and advice stands. A treehouse competition, a live painting competition, and workshops will be on the program. Previous editions have welcomed up to 12,000 visitors, demonstrating the popularity of this type of event in the Île-de-France region.

The event is part of a broader initiative led by the municipality of Barbizon. Since its creation, the Fête des Parcs et Jardins has given rise to several ecological and social initiatives: tree planting, greening of the village, and raising awareness of biodiversity. In the current context, where the preservation of green spaces and zero net land take are at the heart of the debate, this event highlights the essential role of plants in our urban and peri-urban environments.

The Barbizon Parks and Gardens Festival 2026 will be held around Barbizon Town Hall, located at 13 Grande-Rue, on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free for all visitors. Free parking is available at Allée aux Vaches near the national forest, a short walk from the village center. Several dining options will be available at the event site and in the various establishments in the village, allowing visitors to fully enjoy this bucolic day.

In short, if you're looking for a great way to celebrate spring while discovering the botanical riches of the world, don't miss this 5th edition, which promises wonderful exchanges and beautiful plant discoveries. Head to Barbizon to explore the gardens of the world without leaving Seine-et-Marne.
