Parc Georges Brassens, one of the most bucolic parks in Paris, boasts many vines. And it's no coincidence that the Vaugirard district has a long history of winegrowing! Discover the history of Clos des Morillons, the only vineyard in the 15th arrondissement.

For many centuries, right up to the 18th century, a huge vineyard covered the southern slopes of the Hauts de Vaugirard: vines made up more than half of the cultivated area of the Vaugirard plain. The grape variety of the day, named Périchot, was harvested by the monks of the Clos des Morillons, according to the Mairie de Paris.

Over the centuries, as Paris industrialized and underwent massive urbanization, the vines lost ground, until they disappeared completely in the 19th century. So, when the creation of Georges Brassens Park was envisaged in 1982, it was decided to revive the vineyards traditionally cultivated in the Vaugirard district by planting a brand-new 1,200 m² vineyard. As Périchot had also disappeared, 700 Pinot Noir vines were planted, along with around twenty Pinot Meunier vines. Facing due south, the vineyard, christened "le Clos des Morillons", had the ideal conditions to flourish in the heart of Georges Brassens Park.

Each year, an auction is organized to sell bottles of wine from the Clos des Morillons harvest: in 2022, the harvest was 300 kg of grapes, and it is with these bunches that the Clos' 2023 wine will be bottled. So, if you'd like to buy some and support the work done each year in the vineyard (knowing that profits are donated to associations in the 15th arrondissement), all you have to do is take part in these wine auctions!
