Space Mountain: From the Earth to the Moon will replace Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain at Disneyland Paris after the attraction closes, expected late 2027. Announced at the D23 Expo 2026, this return to the 1995-inspired theme will come with a renovation of one of Discoveryland’s most iconic roller coasters. Drawing on the novels of Jules Verne, the new version will feature fresh scenery, a redesigned queue, enhanced special effects, and the comeback of several historical elements of the ride.
Opened in 1995 in the Disneyland Park, Space Mountain: From the Earth to the Moon left visitors spellbound with its retro-futuristic vibe, its imposing Columbiad cannon, and a soundtrack by Steve Bramson. After a decade under the Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain theme, Disneyland Paris confirmed that the ride would reclaim its original identity while incorporating the technical advances developed over the years. The music will be fully remastered, the Star Way will return to the queue, and the Columbiad cannon will be restored with its key effects. At the D23 Expo, Michel den Dulk, Portfolio Executive Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering, also confirmed that the cannon would regain "all its splendor," hinting at the return of its iconic effects.
The renovation will also include a substantial phase of technical maintenance. At this stage, Disneyland Paris has announced no replacement of the attraction's rails. This multi-month closure, however, is fueling visitors' questions about a possible retrack, i.e., the partial or total replacement of the rails installed when it opened in 1995. The Park has not confirmed this. Instead, it clarified that the various technical improvements added over the years would be kept, notably the dome lighting that was inaugurated in 2025.
For Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, the aim is to recapture the spirit of the original attraction without simply recreating it. As Keith Rector, Senior Manager, Creative Art Director, explains: "While remaining faithful to the spirit and heritage of the original journey, this new version will build on the full range of innovations and cutting-edge technologies introduced to the attraction over the years, in order to offer an even more thrilling experience to our visitors".
The return of Space Mountain: From the Earth to the Moon is part of the New Magic program, aimed at modernizing several of Disneyland Paris's historic attractions. Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain will stay open until its planned closure at the end of in 2027, ahead of several months of work. The reopening date has not yet been announced, but Disneyland Paris is expected to unveil new details about the renovation in the coming months.
