Just a stone's throw (literally) from the Jardin du Luxembourg, here's a restaurant where life is good, where gourmet, refined but above all balanced cuisine is served, and where, of course, brunch, whether on weekends or weekdays, is fast becoming a must in Parisian address books.

Behind this trendy spot are Laurel Coker-Sanderson and Kaysa von Sydow, two best friends for over two decades: one is American, the other Swedish, and each has put a little of her personality into the Treize au jardin project. Every day, all day long, until 6 p.m., you'll be served a generous brunch: of course, eggs Benedict (Treize Benedict) come to mind, poached to perfection, accompanied by the house's own pan-fried potatoes (kale, mushrooms and tomatoes) and served on buttermilk cookie, the homemade bread roll made from a traditional recipe from South Carolina, where Laurel is originally from.

Needless to say, the French Toast & Chicken, which combines the homemade French toast bun, tender chicken breaded just right, honey-roasted apples and pecans, has it all: gourmet, but not overly so, Treize au Jardin has found a way to offer a brunch with multiple flavors without becoming stuffed or overly copious. There are also more classic options, such as the pancake- fried egg-grilled bacon combo, homemade granola served over Greek yoghurt or the Breakfast Plat with fried eggs, smoked sausage, sweet potato rosti, tomato jam and homemade bread roll (also available in a vegan version). The brunch menu also offers a range of healthy salads: roasted broccoli salad, a version with grilled apples, bacon and aged cheddar, or one with kale? All expertly seasoned. Alternatively, there are heartier options with Southern Plates, such as the BBQ plate and its smoked pulled pork served on the house bun with potato salad, the chicken plate and its breaded chicken fillet on green and potato salads, honey-mustard sauce...

The dishes are balanced nutritionally, but above all in terms of flavor: each Main Dish is delicately sublimated with spices, adding real added value to the savory part of the Treize au jardin brunch.

Treize au jardin doesn't mess around with sweetness: to accompany your dish, take a look at the "desserts" tab on the menu, and you won't be disappointed. As soon as you walk in the door, you'll notice the vertiginous layer cakes and thick cheesecakes: these are the house classics, Carrot Cake à layers in the lead, Classic cheesecake just behind. Delicious, not too sweet, airy (for the carrot cake), remember to ask for two spoonfuls if you don't feel like finishing it, but don't miss out! Otherwise, other brownies and cookies will go very well with a coffee to round off this brunch.

As for drinks, we recommend the detox juice, as tangy as you like, the homemade iced tea or, in a hot version, the Liquid Sunshine, a latte with turmeric, almond milk, ginger and honey, the charcoal latte or, more gourmet, the mochaccino or hot chocolate, customizable as you like.
