The long queue along the alley facing the 184 rue Saint-Martin triggers passersby’s curiosity: what could attract such a crowd? The concept-eatery Trois Fois plus de Piment [Three times more pepper] where dumpling fans meet to enjoy flavorful dishes and they don’t care if they have to wait for dozens of minutes to enjoy the Holy Grail. Barely once inside, we’re intoxicated by the delicate scent coming from the cooker.
This Chinese restaurant with a wood and industrial décor offers a menu that is both simple and genuine: dumplings, noodles and soups give pride of place to the Sichuan region and its delicate spices.
Behind this name – giving some flutters to the fragile palates – hides a simple yet terribly effective concept: choosing the dose of pepper we wish to season our dishes with.
But may the least bold eaters be rest assured, you can also enjoy these dishes without pepper.
Indeed, we offer you to choose a level – going from 0 to 5. But careful though, the most fragile eaters, the second level is already very spicy, beyond this point, we prefer to tell you, it’s at your own risks. The restaurant wants to remind what the bravest may risk in many preventive messages displayed in the hall and on the menus.
With a short and simple menu, Trois Fois plus de Piment has quickly become a major restaurant in Paris. By enjoy dishes full of flavors and perfectly executed, we leave feeling happy and after enjoying a change of scenery.
Let’s start with the dumplings and the Sichuan sauce as well as with beef and sesame dressing, two flavorful and tasty entrées. We slightly preferred the dumplings that are particularly flavorful and served with a slightly sweet sauce, this main dish took us straight to China.
In terms of main courses, the house specialty remains undeniably the noodle soups: beef, pork and even vegetarian, there’s something for everyone. Served in a hot and tasty broth, the varied spices mix with the thick and homemade noodles.
We tried the level 1 dishes and it was already quite spicy, so, be careful if you’re sensitive, you’re warned, stay at the level 0. For the others, go for the taste buds in fire adventure!
With its strong concept, Trois Fois plus de Piment is now a reference in Paris in terms of Chinese food. At the origin of this success: the Deux fois plus de Piments restaurant set at 33 rue Saint-Sébastien in Paris 11th arrondissement. Since then, its founder M. Cheng has also opened Cinq Fois plus de Piments also set in Rue Saint-Martin in the 3rd arrondissement.
