Get your tail coats out, polish the coppers, and get ready to greet the Earl of Grantham and the Crawley family, back in the theaters from March 16, 2022 for a second Downton Abbey movie. The movie started production this past August, so did the shooting and to the general surprise, as announced by Focus Features in a release. And this time, the Crawley Family is coming to South of France after Lady Violet has inherited a villa by the sea from a man from her past.
The cast features the dream team of the series and the first movie, namely Hugh Bonneville, Elisabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Maggie Smith, Brendan Coyle, as well as Joanne Froggatt, and a few new names such as Hugh Dancy (Martha Marcy May Marlene, Late Night…), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy, Transformers: The Last Knight…), Nathalie Baye (Catch Me If You Can, The Assistant) and Dominic West (The Square, Tomb Raider…).
First, the movie was expected to gather families for the Holidays, after over a year of Covid-related restrictions: “After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be re-united with the much-beloved characters of Downton Abbey”, Gareth Neame, the movie’s producer and executive chairman of Carnival Films said.
“There’s no place like home for the holidays, and we can’t imagine a better gift than getting to reunite with Julian, Gareth, and the entire Downton family in 2021 to bring the Crawley’s back home for their fans”, added Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski.
