Just in case you were still looking: there is no climbing gym in Paris. Probably due to the lack of space, hight and the price it would cost. If you want to climb, you therefore have to leave the capital. Arkose, the latest place to have opened is quite possibly the easiest one to get to, when coming from Paris. Located between the Montreuil and Vincennes gates, you can get to the gym via 2 metro lines, the tram or the RER. So, if you're towards the East of Paris, you have no excuse not to do some sports, my friend. Well, that is if you're in "spider" mode.
Speaking of which, did you know that climbing was one of the best sports there is. It allows you to work on your flexibility, muscules, and eliminate a very great number of calories (remember those good resolutions, girls?).
Anyway, back to Arkose: the place is 900m2 big, with a typical East-Paris-industrial-era architecture. The owners chose to keep the original industrial aspect of the place, with large windows that give a beautiful light.
Right from the start, you will note towards the right, the bar, perfect to chill, have a beer, a snack or lunch or dinner on the go. The place offers a simple menu, with a healthy homemade cuisine and fresh products. Cooked lunch and evening snacks are on the menu.
To the left, you will find the indoor climbing zone, with 150 blocks with 6 levels of difficulty (just like in Fontainebleau), allowing for beginners, as well as pros, to enjoy themselves.
Upstairs, in addition to the "chill-out" spot, with all the young ones and teens looking to relax, with a free wifi access, we find a passage to train and practice or warm up, a "torture " area, to work-out on your hands and arms and a small play area for children from 2 years old.
Among the weak points, we do miss roofs (to climb upside down) and weights room. Among the strengths, we liked the slopes, a cave and airy paths with the just the right amount of climbing holds, that remind us of Fontainebleau.
In short, go try it out, my friends! And don't forget the children: they'll love it. If you take beginners along, do note that courses for adults, as well as children, are available.
