Heritage Days 2023 in Dourdan (91): discover the town's remarkable sites

Let's head for the pretty town of Dourdan, in Essonne, France, for the 40th edition of the Journées du Patrimoine . This charming commune was built around its castle and medieval fortifications, giving it a cachet that has endured through the ages.

Dourdan is proud of its château, completed around 1222 by King Philippe Auguste. It is one of the few buildings in theÎle-de-France region to have preserved most of its defensive structures: dry moats, curtain walls, towers and entrance châtelet. A drawbridge and portcullis once ensured its defense, while archways on the sides of the towers are still visible.

Bordered by a majestic forest, the town of Dourdan is highly appreciated for its historical heritage, and its natural spaces offer beautiful walks.

Take advantage of the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) to visit Essonne and its treasures, this Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17, 2023.
