How about heading to the lovely city of Dourdan in Essonne for the 38th edition of European Heritage Days? The charming city was built around a castle and medieval fortifications, giving it a charm living strong across the centuries.
Dourdan is proud of their castle ended circa 1222 by King Philippe Auguste. It is one of the only buildings in Île-de-France that has kept most of its defensive structures: dry moat, curtain wall, towers and miniature castle entrance. A drawbridge and a portcullis used to do the defensive work, while the arrowslits all around the towers are still visible.
For the European Heritage Days 2021 discover the Château de Dourdan and its surroundings thanks to guided tours and entertainments.
Let us go, friends, shall we?
