European Heritage Days are the occasion to discover treasures found in museums, buildings and monuments in the wonderful French capital city! And if you are not afraid of visiting a church, head to the Church of Saint-Jean de Montmartre for guided tours and an organ recital on Saturday September 18, 2021!

For European Heritage Days, the Church of Saint-Jean de Montmartre welcomes you on Saturday September 18, 2021 for different entertainments. On the menu: a guided tour to know everything about the place, as well as an organ recital for all music lovers.

The Church of Saint-Jean de Montmartre is the first church made of reinforced concrete, built between 1897 and 1904, as designed by architect Anatole de Baudot driven by abbot Sobaux. The ceramic and sandstone cover gives the building a picturesque look. The very colorful stained-glass windows by Jac Galland are part of the most beautiful figurative stained-glass windows from the early 20th century. Note the church has been added to the French Supplementary Historic Monument list in 1966.

On the menu of the 38th edition of European Heritage Days at the Church of Saint-Jean de Montmartre:

  • Guided tour - Saturday September 18, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday September 19 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Visit a key work of the 20th century’s sacred heart, focusing on three main topics: the story of the building (social-political context), the architecture (what space and what for?), the iconographic program at the service of the faith and catechetical teaching. The visit relies on many works of art: stained-glass windows, sculptures, ceramics. Groups limited to 30 people because of the health situation, no prior booking.

  • Organ concert - Saturday September 18 from 3:15 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Concert performed on a Cavaillé-Col organ by the parish’s tenured organist. Free admission, no limit, excluding likely health protocol.
