If you have never been to the Hotel de Ville de Paris, you shall make the best of European Heritage Days 2020 to do so. And this is the perfect occasion. Even though the building has been built only in 1882, it is a Parisian heritage jewel, listed as Historic Monument.
As a matter of fact, Paris City Hall had to be re-built after a fire in 1871. Architects Théodore Ballu and Deperthes will complete an exploit when rebuilding the ancient city hall in under ten years, with major improvements. Paris City Hall then becomes the most modern public building in that time. It is connected to an electricity supply, to a phone supply and is fitted with central heating and lifts.
By registrtaions, come and visit this Parisian institution from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On the menu this year, a walk in the reception halls richly decorated, the Paris Council room and the Mayor’s Office! Enjoy the architecture, furnitue and works of art, such as the model for the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier!
All day long, craftsmen and women of the city Hall - florists, locksmiths, upholsterers, clockmakers, floor layers, heating engineers, painters and chandelier cleaners - will tell you about how they maintain the building for workshops. Stone-carving demonstrations by the Union Rempart association will amaze you for sure.
Moreover, small exhibitions will tell you more about Paris' history. Their themes? "Parisian heritage: a living testimony of Paris' History", "400 years of History about Paris cleanliness" and more lighter, an exhibition focusing on childhood items from Paris activity centers.
Paris City Hall also planned to pay tribute to its employees from the cleaning and safety services!
