White Night – Nuit Blanche 2018: Experiencing the ordinary at the Palais de la Porte Dorée

On the occasion of the White Night this Saturday October 6, 2018, the Palais de la Porte Dorée offers us to experience the ordinary thanks to Benjamin Loyauté. All night long, we can question our current life and society through installations and a candy, the Candy-graphie, a symbol of the intangible heritage in our societies!

Chosen to be part of the White Night 2018, the Palais de la Porte Dorée will welcome Benjamin Loyauté’s work this Saturday October 6, 2018. Gaël Charbau (the White Night art director) invites us to discover this artist rather unknown in France.

Since 2014, Benjamin Loyauté works on a work evolving around several chapters, a work halfway between poetry, marvelous and documentary. In this chapter called “L’Expérience de l’ordinaire” [Experiencing the ordinary] and designed for the Palais de la Porte Dorée (the Museum of Immigration history), Benjamin Loyauté approaches the importance of the intangible heritage.

In this exhibition running from October 6 to 30, 2018, we wonder about our relationships with other simple things escaping from us like water and our relationships with things “created” by men that seem yet so common. Benjamin Loyauté asks about the ordinary, this “materialization of an invisible”, more collective than it seems.

For his exhibition “L’Expérience de l’ordinaire”, Benjamin Loyauté brought together several works, some of them have never been seen before, designed with the support of Rubis Mécénat, anthropologists and sociologists. Movie, installation, sculpture and performance, the exhibition is an open and meditative counterspace where we accept “the magic of the ordinary”.

Main element of the exhibition, the candygraphie, a candy which shape reminds us of a strange archaeologist from Mesopotamia, want to take us to introspection and remind us of our living memories. 500 Candygraphie boxes will be handed over to the public during surprise moments along the White night.
