The Etincelles by the Palais de la Découverte, the temproary facilities of the playful museum, opens from June 12, 2021 in the Parc André Citroën for four years, just to renovate the historical monument! Exhibitions, workshops and planetarium, the temporary museum will remain the temple of science in Paris. Free opening this weekend, June 12 to 13, and on Wednesday June 16, 2021, upon mandatory booking.

Loved by families and curious people, the Palais de la Découverte could not completely close in August 2020 and for four years to renovate the Grand Palais. So, after having received the green flag from the Paris Council, the museum will settle in the Parc André-Citroën with a temporary structure covering about 800sqm.

Inside this temporary museum made of wood, the Palais de la Découverte will propose the permanent exhibition we know, in reduced version, workshops and conferences as well as a 49-seat planetarium!

Zones of the temporary Palais de la Découverte:

  • Chemistry: raw materials in perfumery, hydrogen…
  • Geoscience: earthquakes, geologic stroll on Mars, “A searcher, an experiment…”
  • Physics: light, sound
  • Life sciences: brain, heart, DNA, microbes, and even an area devoted to ants with terrariums…
  • Mathematics: mathematics workshops…
  • Computer and digital sciences: workshops about Thymio robots, Nao humanoid robots displayed…

We can already guess that the Palais de la Découverte of the Parc André-Citroën will not be able to welcome the same number of visitors. It has already been planned that the temporary museum will be reserved for schools and groups in the week and open by registration to the general public in the weekends and during school breaks.

A good solution to keep on studying the main scientific phenomenon while the beautiful 1900 monument is getting a makeover to reopen in 2024.
