Pablo Picasso and Auguste Rodin: two artists, two big names in the art world. The Musée Rodin and the Musée national Picasso team up and present the “Picasso - Rodin, une exposition, deux lieux” [Picasso-Rodin, one exhibition, two locations]. This double event is set at the same time, from May 19, 2021 to January 2, 2022, in both museums.
This is going to be a great meeting in the galleries of the Musée Rodin. Picasso and Rodin face one another and answer one another through their works. In this mix of paintings and sculptures, we discover a rather unexpected dialog, a resonance and an unexpected proximity.
Both exhibitions complete one another, each focusing on a different art aspect of both men. At the Musée Rodin, we discover the plastic solutions invented by both artists to represent the real, their experiments, their successes and their improvements. At the Musée Picasso, the tour focuses on the private sphere of creation in the studio’s laboratory. Visitors also follow Picasso’s footsteps discovering in 1900 the “Rodin” retrospective at the Pavillon de l’Alma.
Rediscovering the (very) many works and see the similarities between the two artists all along the tour is an astounding experience. And we end up thinking about a dialog, a story between drawings and sculptures, paintings and figurines.
This double exhibition highlights the richness of art processes, the genius of both artists and their similitudes, even though their own works are unique. Yet, there is one question that remains: with what museum will you start this incredible experience first?
