The story goes that every month in Montreuil, in the heart of the Gérard Rinçon community center, a large batch of bread and pizza is baked on site by volunteers, families and curious onlookers. It's the monthly bake-off organized by the Salut les Co-pains association, which offers a low-cost , participatory cooking workshop for a Sunday of encounters, sharing and bread!
More than twelve years ago, a group of friends set about creating a bread oven that would become a unifying place where social ties could be forged in the neighborhood. Some time later, with the help of Montreuil town council, the oven was installed. Since then, once a month on Sundays from 10am, theSalut les Co-pains association offers several workshops. First, you can learn about the maintenance and lighting of a bread oven, then there's a workshop for making bread dough and another for pizza dough in the morning. By the time the dough has risen, the pizza party starts at around 12:30 p.m. All you have to do is bring your pizza toppings, and the association provides the ingredients for the dough and the wood for the oven. Once the pizzas have been baked and eaten (and digested), it's time for the bread dough, which generally goes into the oven at 3pm. By 4pm, the batch is ready!
All you have to do is join the association! It costs €10 per family, flat-share... for the whole year. In total, you can attend eleven batches a year (every month except August), and participation is unlimited! The next date is at the end of February, on Sunday, February 26, 2023, starting at 10 a.m.
