In the cinema, pictures aren’t everything! The sound of footsteps, the wind blowing, the rain falling, or the creak of a door all contribute to the mood of a scene. But how are these sounds created? That is precisely what children will discover during this themed weekend devoted to the little sounds of cinema.
On the program, several participatory workshops will introduce the techniques used to bring images to life. The apprentice filmmakers will notably experiment with stop motion, an animation technique that consists of photographing objects image by image, moving them slightly between each shot. Once the images are assembled, the objects seem to move by themselves!
Another discovery: the flip book, this little notebook whose pages, flicked quickly, give the illusion of movement. A simple and fun principle to understand the basics of animation cinema. On Sunday, families will also have the chance to meet Jean-Carl Feldis, a professional foley artist, during a workshop dedicated to sound creation.
An opportunity to understand how professionals use objects, their voice or instruments to accompany a film’s images. Participants will thus be able to step into the shoes of foley artists, actors or musicians. Hosted in the cultural space Little Villette, in the heart of Parc de la Villette, this weekend allows children to discover cinema differently, by experimenting with creation techniques themselves.
And good news for families: all announced activities are free. Some simply require on-site registration, subject to availability.
