Weekend at Beauval with the family: our review of the Pagodes and the 2026 updates with two teenagers, between an immersive hotel, new territories and the park’s key moments.

A family weekend at Beauval with teenagers can be a bit of a gamble. Once they hit a certain age, a zoo isn’t always the promise of instant excitement. So we headed to see, in spring 2026, whether the ZooParc de Beauval still delivers during a 48-hour stay with two teens aged 14 and 16. Verdict: the test was largely successful.

Getting there from Paris: easier than you might think

From Porte d’Orléans, plan on a little over two hours by road to reach Beauval via the A10, A71 and A85,roughly 220 kilometers. Traveling by train to Saint-Aignan–Noyers is also a credible option, taking about 2h10 to 2h35 depending on the connections, but you’ll then face a final 8-kilometer transfer to the park, since the shuttle isn’t guaranteed every day.

In practice, for a family juggling bags, kids’ gear, and a weekend logistics, the car remains the most flexible option. All the more so because the hotel Les Pagodes de Beauval offers free parking, just a seven-minute walk from the park entrance. Arriving in late morning, the change of scenery hits you right away.

Beauval's Pagodas: an immersive and convenient hotel

From the moment you park, the décor sets the tone. Raised roofs, stone lions, marble bridges, manicured gardens, porcelain vases, statues and footbridges: the establishment fully embraces its Chinese-inspired aesthetic. The thematic approach carries through the corridors as it does the rooms, with decorative elements handcrafted by Chinese artisans.

The kids immediately latched onto the “movie-hotel” vibe, and it works. With 127 rooms, a restaurant, a bar, an outdoor lagoon-style pool and a play area, Les Pagodes was designed for family stays. We tested a quadruple room with an antechamber and bunk beds for the children, but the hotel also offers doubles, triples and configurations for up to five people, with the option of a baby cot.

Comfort rooms, with their loft vibes, wrap guests in a cozy cocoon after a long day of exploring, while Superior rooms step up with a balcony and more natural light. A pleasant surprise: the themed design extends beyond the façade. The atmosphere is carefully curated even inside the rooms, delivering a warmth that surpasses expectations. A few details feel a touch dated in places, especially in some finishes, but they don’t detract from the overall comfort of the stay.

The hotel’s big plus, however, remains its logistics. After a full day in the park, being able to walk back, enjoy the seasonal pool, dine on site, and head to bed without getting back in the car truly changes the experience. The Sichuan restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat buffet, while the Shanghai Bar opens every afternoon. For a weekend at Beauval, this simplicity is a real asset.

Regarding the noise, some online reviews mention disturbances, but we didn’t notice anything bothersome, either in the evening or in the early morning. For travelers with light sleep, it’s still better to opt for a garden-side room.

Beauval in Spring 2026: a park in the thick of transformation

Beauval's ZooParc houses 35,000 animals, 800 species, 22 ecosystems and 45 hectares to explore. The park is open every day from 9 a.m., and it itself recommends planning for a two-day visit. That advice seems well justified to us: trying to do everything in one day would mean skimming a large swath of the site.

Spring 2026 stands out as a milestone in the park’s history. On April 4, 2026, Beauval unveiled two new major zones: Bucolia and Les Terres Rouges. Two very different worlds that clearly reinvigorate the visitor experience.

Red Lands: Australia Comes to Beauval

Set on the site of an old miniature farm, the Red Lands area spans 4,500 square meters and plunges visitors into an Australian bush ambience. Here you’ll encounter red kangaroos, emus, rock wallabies, Parma wallabies, and, above all, wombats—the only place in France where you can see them.

It's one of the park’s genuinely standout new features. The area resonates especially with teens, precisely because it offers something rare and highly visual. The moment you step into the kangaroo enclosure, with only a low barrier separating you from the animals, it adds a truly immersive dimension. For us, it was clearly one of the high points of the visit.

Bucolia: a living farm banking on close community ties

In contrast to the Australian vibe, Bucolia pursues a more sensitive and approachable approach. Behind the Elephant Cable Car station, this new one-hectare space draws on the villages of Sologne and Berry to showcase old domestic breeds, some of which are at risk of extinction.

Here you’ll find Solognots sheep, Grand Noir du Berry donkeys, Poitevine goats, Berry cou clair goats, Houdan chickens, and Shetland ponies. The project isn’t limited to animal watching: it also includes the restaurant Au Canard Toqué, the Du Coq à l’Âne shop, a 1900 carousel, water games, and several shaded terraces.

The concept rests on a simple idea: to spark emotion through proximity, touch, scent, and lived experience. And it works. Even with teenagers, who might be presumed less receptive to this universe, Bucolia has generated genuine moments of engagement. Beauval notes here that a zoological park can move people through the familiar, not just through exoticism.

Shows and activities that continue to bring people together

The park’s two flagship shows are well established in the spring lineup. Les Maîtres des Airs brings together around 600 birds in a vast 3,000-seat amphitheatre. But the standout novelty for 2026 concerns mainly L’Odyssée des Lions de Mer, relaunched on March 21 in a completely redesigned version.

This revamped format aims to be more immersive, with giant-screen projections above the stage and a stronger educational emphasis on California sea lions and ocean protection. The result feels far more contemporary and convincing than a straightforward animal show—and it's one of the highlights that teenagers praised the most.

On the entertainment front, Maison Beauval Nature keeps offering activities—from games to exhibitions and key events—through mid-June. The park is also launching a new comfort service, the Pass Zen, available from €15 per person for ages 3 and up. It includes priority access to the two shows, two skip-the-line passes for the Beauval Cloud cable car (Le Nuage de Beauval), and perks at two of the park’s restaurants, including the new Canard Toqué. For a packed weekend stay, it’s a option that can actually save you time.

Finally, the park offers 23 dining venues, with a lineup that varies by season. In April, around fifteen are open, helping visitors avoid improvised lunches and pace the day more effectively.

Pandas, golden monkeys: Beauval keeps its star attractions

Beauval wouldn’t be mentioned without the giant pandas. The historic pairing of Huan Huan and Yuan Zi left the park on November 25, 2025 to return to China for health reasons. This chapter is closing, but the pandas’ story at Beauval continues with their twin daughters, Yuandudu and Huanlili, born in 2021, who will remain at the park at least until January 2027 under the cooperation agreement with China.

For visitors returning after several years, you should know that the longtime adult pandas are no longer there, but two giant pandas remain visible at the Heights of China.

Another major headline: the golden monkeys. Beauval, in 2025, became the first park outside Asia to host this exceptionally rare species. And spring 2026 has already etched a new chapter in the site’s history with two remarkable births: the first baby golden monkey born outside Asia on March 11, 2026, followed by a second on April 2. These events undeniably reinforce the park’s unique international standing.

Our ideal 48-hour itinerary in Beauval

Following this stay, here is the plan we would recommend to get the most out of a weekend on site.

Day 1: Arrive at the Pagodas before noon, drop off the bags, grab a quick lunch, and head into the park in the early afternoon. The opening hours can be spent exploring the park’s big historic zones: the Equatorial Dome, the Hippo Reserve, Lions’ Land, the Great South American Aviary, and Panda Heights. Ideally, book a show as well, with a preference for The Odyssey of the Sea Lions. Return on foot to the hotel, a possible pool break if the weather cooperates, and dinner at Sichuan.

Day 2: Arrive at opening time at the Red Lands, when the wombats are most lively, then swing by Bucolia before the crowds hit at noon. Lunch at Le Canard Toqué, then a relaxed afternoon to revisit favorite spots, ride the cable car, watch the golden monkeys, or extend the gorilla side of the visit. Depending on everyone’s pace, you can head out late in the day or add an extra night to explore the surroundings, including Chenonceau, Valençay, Montrésor, or Saint-Aignan.

Our verdict after testing it with the family

The verdict is very positive. Pagodes de Beauval doesn’t try to be a contemporary luxury hotel, and that isn’t their angle. The place opts for themed, warm, family-friendly lodging that works brilliantly on a practical level. For a stay at Beauval, the balance between immersion and logistics feels particularly well judged.

When it comes to the park, it no longer rests on its laurels. It keeps reinventing itself. The new territories, the revamped show, historic births, and upgraded comfort—these elements give spring 2026 a rare density. Beauval isn’t just a great French zoo anymore: it’s now a complete, coherent destination, family-friendly without being childish, spectacular without being superficial.

The teenagers’ verdict captures the experience pretty well. The eldest, though not exactly enthusiastic at first, admitted she was worn out from walking too much. The younger one, more reserved, simply said it was “really good.” In a family with teens, that’s already a strong indicator.

Who is a stay at Beauval really meant for?

This type of stay is primarily aimed at families with children aged 5 to 16, and it works especially well with teenagers, as long as they’re on board with a weekend that leans more toward observation than screen time. It’s also a great fit for curious couples, for grandparents traveling with their grandchildren, for wildlife photography enthusiasts, and, more broadly, for anyone seeking a memorable short escape near Paris.

On the other hand, the experience won’t suit those looking for a thrill-filled attraction. Beauval isn’t designed to be that kind of park. The site can also prove tiring for very young children, as the distances are substantial. Visitors with very limited mobility should note that the park is vast and hilly, and the cable car covers only part of the route. Finally, anyone who dislikes crowds would be wise to choose spring—outside the May long weekends—over the peak summer season.

Beauval or Disneyland Paris: two very different options

The comparison with Disneyland Paris often crops up, but the two destinations don’t operate on the same turf. Disneyland builds on a fictional universe, globally recognized licenses, rides, parades, and a highly cinematic, story-driven experience. You go there to step into a familiar tale, usually at a higher price and with crowds that are typically denser.

Beauval offers the opposite. Here, the setting is real, the animals are truly present, and the emotion comes from discovery, observation, and surprise. The pace is more contemplative, and more educational as well. The budget remains more accessible for comparable offerings, especially for an on-site overnight stay. The dining, while not cheap, is also more reasonable.

At heart, the real difference lies in the kind of emotion it evokes. Disneyland plays on recognition and nostalgia. Beauval plays on discovery and wonder at the living world. It’s not better or worse, just a different promise. In our case, nature clearly won the day.

Why Beauval Is Worth the Trip in Spring 2026

Yes, Beauval is worth the trip from Paris in spring 2026. Yes, the Hôtel Les Pagodes is a top choice for enjoying a stay in perfect comfort. And yes, taken together, it makes for one of the most compelling family getaways of the year, just a short hop from the capital.

With its 2026 lineup of new features, standout animal moments, refreshed performances, and its appeal to both adults and teens, Beauval proves it’s far more than just a zoo. It’s a weekend getaway in its own right, crafted to leave lasting memories.
