From December 14 to December 21, 2025, the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah returns with its signature public celebrations across France. This year, the Loubavitch movement in Seine-Saint-Denis will be hosting daily public lighting of menorahs (except on Shabbat), in numerous towns throughout the department. Notably, this makes it one of the few areas in Île-de-France to hold public Hanukkah events every day possible.
At Hanukkah, Jews all over the world celebrate the miracle of lights, lighting a new candle each evening from the eight-branched candleholder, the hanukiah, plus a ninth, the chamach. These public events are open to all, whether you're Jewish or not, and are free of charge.
