You've probably walked past it countless times without ever stopping to go inside. Located right next to the Forum des Halles in Paris’s 1st arrondissement, Saint-Eustache Church offers a peaceful retreat amid a neighborhood in constant transformation and lively renewal.
European Heritage Days 2023 invite you to explore a historic religious building where Louis XIV celebrated his first communion. On Saturday, September 16, 2023, there will be free guided tours of the western entrance project and the Saint-Anne Chapel, allowing you to uncover hidden details and unravel its mysteries.
This is also a perfect opportunity to delve into the history of this church, which showcases a blend of styles—a Gothic-structured building adorned with Renaissance decorations and a classic façade, dating back to the 13th century—and learn about the vibrant life of its community. Additionally, beyond the scaffolding, visitors can explore the massive pipe organ inside, with its 8,000 pipes making it one of the largest in Europe.
Take the opportunity to learn some fascinating historical anecdotes about Saint-Eustache: including the funerals of Colbert, Jean de La Fontaine, Mirabeau, Mozart’s mother, and Turenne... The building has hosted the final rites of many renowned figures. And of course, it’s also a chance to appreciate the paintings, stained glass windows, and frescoes created by Charles Le Brun, Raymond Mason, Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, Rubens, and Antoine Soulignac, which adorn the church's walls.
A wonderful discovery awaits you!
