The Maison d'Auguste Comte unveils its program for this weekend in Paris, September 19–20, 2026, on the occasion of the 43rd edition of Heritage Days.

Have you heard of the Journées du Patrimoine ? This not-to-be-missed cultural event invites you to explore our heritage through an attractive program of guided tours, often free of charge, original events and other surprises. Some places that are usually closed to the public even open their doors to you for the occasion!

We’re taking advantage of the 43rd edition of the Journées du Patrimoine to discover the Maison d'Auguste Comte, opened for the occasion on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026. Located on the Rue Monsieur le Prince, in the heart of the Quartier latin, this museum-apartment has remained unchanged since the death of Auguste Comte, 151 years ago.

You've probably come across him in philosophy or French class, but who is Auguste Comte really? The father of sociology, this major 19th-century philosopher also developed positivism,"a global project for the reorganization of society in its social, political, moral and even religious dimensions", as the museum named after him puts it.

As a place of remembrance, the apartment invites visitors to take a journey back in time, alongside the philosopher, and to immerse themselves in his theories and understand their ins and outs. It's also an opportunity to learn more about the man and his field of expertise.

Heritage Days 2026 program at the Maison d'Auguste Comte in Paris:

  • Exhibition "Comte: Life on Rue Monsieur-le-Prince" at the Maison d'Auguste Comte

This exhibition aims to illuminate the daily life of Auguste Comte, a vivid testament to the existence of a 19th‑century intellectual. Hidden archives are being brought to light here: invoices, ledgers, “sacred” relics, papers connected to his social outings and a few diversions... It’s a fresh perspective on Auguste Comte—somewhat different, yet not distant—from his philosophical oeuvre—that we’re presenting. The enduring presence of the founder of positivism seems to take tangible shape in his home...

  • Self-guided tour of the Maison d'Auguste Comte

The Maison d’Auguste Comte is a museum apartment where the French philosopher Auguste Comte (1798–1857) lived. Located at 10 Rue Monsieur le Prince in Paris’s 6th arrondissement, it was his final home, from 1841 until his death in 1857. Afterward, his disciples safeguarded the dwelling that witnessed the birth of his philosophy, honoring their master’s last wishes. Now a museum, the apartment—owned by an International Association devoted to Auguste Comte—is open to visitors. Step over the threshold and you enter the philosopher’s home exactly as he knew it, with its original furnishings and the items he owned. A thematic route, guided by a light museum installation that preserves the place’s authenticity, informs visitors about Auguste Comte’s philosophy.
