The Journées du Patrimoine 2025 promise to be rich in discoveries, and once again this year, theAcadémie nationale de médecine will be part of the event, on Saturday September 20 in Paris. Head for rue Bonaparte, in the 6tharrondissement, in a building designed byAPHP architect Julien Richet.
From the Salle des Séances, with its dome housing the monumental statue of Hippocrates, to paintings of the history of medicine and marble and bronze busts of famous doctors, the Académie Nationale de Médecine will hold no secrets for you! It's also an opportunity to learn more about this 200-year-old institution , whose role is to respond to government requests on all matters concerning public health.
Another gem to discover is the library of the Académie de Médecine,"one of the richest medical libraries in the world", with its 400,000 volumes, including 13 incunabula - books printed in Europe before 1501. Documents in unusual formats are highlighted: from a few centimetres to over a metre in height, these works are illustrated using special techniques - woodcuts, leather engravings, lithographs - a real treasure trove for enthusiasts.
