Artistic demonstration at the Eugène Delacroix Museum during Heritage Days 2026

On the occasion of the 43rd European Heritage Days in Paris, the Musée Eugène Delacroix invites you on Saturday, September 19, 2026, to immerse yourself in the painter’s world.

For the 2026 Heritage Days, the Musée Eugène Delacroix invites you to step into the world of the renowned painter. A true living space, its bucolic setting captivates every visitor who crosses its doors. This weekend of September 19–20, 2026, we will seize the opportunity of the Journées du Patrimoine to discover this site, its history and its treasures.

Located in the former apartments and studios of Eugène Delacroix, this museum was born of the determination of several leading painters of the 1920s. Maurice Denis, Paul Signac, Édouard Vuillard and Ker-Xavier Roussel, to name but a few, wished to create a place of homage to this painter who aroused their admiration. And so,Eugène Delacroix 's former home became a museum in his honor.

Within this “museum-workshop” nestled in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, delve into the artist’s intimate oeuvre through a curated collection spanning Delacroix’s works: paintings, murals, lithographs, drawings, plus objects he brought back from his Oriental journey, and pieces by Delacroix’s contemporaries. Sculpting the Muses from Delacroix’s Studio
Demonstration of Modeling and Casting

Drawing on a bas-relief on the façade of Delacroix's workshop depicting the nine Muses, the audience will discover two common sculpture techniques: clay modeling and plaster casting.

During the clay modeling, participants will explore the sculptor’s craft by creating a bas-relief. From cut-out paper figures, they will shape a character on a flat surface to build a relief. This exercise will help the public become familiar with the art of illusion: simulating depth on a shallow plane through successive layers.

Then plaster casting will allow participants, using resin elements provided, to select limbs to form a human body according to the posture of a muse who will be clothed in plaster bandages to magnify its presence. The exercise aims to render movement visible through a play of folds that hug the body, following the ancient technique of wet drapery.
