To mark the 43rd edition of Heritage Days, the Montansier Theatre, an 18th‑century jewel in Versailles, invites you to guided tours over the weekend of September 19–20, 2026.

Why not swing by a theater for the Heritage Days? For the 43rd edition of the event, the Théâtre Montansier, in Versailles, invites you to a guided tour exploring how audiences behaved in 17th‑century theater, on the weekend of 19–20 September 2026. A theater listed as a historic monument in 1991, and it welcomes visitors free of charge to discover the venue’s history.

This Italianate theatre, built by Jean-François Heurtier in the 18th century, has welcomed audiences and actors since its inauguration in 1777, in the presence of Louis XVI and his wife, Queen Marie-Antoinette. It arose from the vision of Marguerite Brunet, one of the earliest women entrepreneurs in history, known as "La Montansier".

With the guided tours of this Heritage Days event, you'll be able to go backstage at the Théâtre Montansier, and admire the original paintings and decorations that adorn the building's interiors, restored on several occasions and now in perfect condition. Many other theaters and performing arts venues are opening their doors to us this Heritage Weekend: check out our guides to find the outings that interest you most!
