For this new edition of the Heritage Days 2026, which spotlights the theme of endangered heritage and the heritage of photography, there are plenty of good tips. From Versailles to Dampierre, iconic and little-known venues will open their doors on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026.
This Île-de-France department is home to some of France's most famous monuments, including the must-see residence of the Sun King, the château de Versailles (link for details). But this palace isn’t the only treasure to discover in the Yvelines: the region also offers several other castles and estates, quirky museums museums, performance venues, enchanting gardens, and family-friendly sites... So it’s virtually impossible to get bored in the Yvelines during these Journées du Patrimoine!
This year we celebrate the 43rd edition of the Heritage Days. Haven’t you heard of this event staged in more than 50 European countries? The Heritage Days are exceptional open-house events that let us explore for free the region’s museums, castles, theaters and venues for the performing arts, as well as historic institutions, notable companies and nearby religious monuments. It’s a cultural fixture that takes place on the third weekend of September, always delivering a few pleasant surprises!
On the program, we find then guided tours, workshops and other activities that whisk us into the enchanting universe of this expansive Île-de-France department, to meet the gems of our globally unique heritage.
