It's a veritable Ali Baba's cave, a dream come true for children aged 7 to 77. Le Rambolitrain is the model train museum. Located in Rambouillet, in the Yvelines department , this atypical museum showcases over 4,000 exhibits, with a functional layout stretching for 500 meters! A grandiose installation that never fails to fascinate visitors.
If you haven’t discovered this family museum yet, mark your calendar for the weekend of September 19–20, 2026. On the occasion of the 43rd edition of the Journées du Patrimoine, Rambolitrain Museum opens its doors to the public free of charge. Curious visitors can freely admire this spacious and rich collection of toy trains, spread across two floors.
Created in 1984 by two model railroad enthusiasts, this model train museum is a timeless place where young and old come together to share a common enthusiasm and excitement for these exceptional collections in working order. Take advantage of these open doors for a first-class trip back to childhood!
Self-guided tour of the Rambolitrain Museum
Housing more than 4,000 pieces in its toy-train and model-railway collection, Rambolitrain traces the history of the railways from their earliest days to the present. Locomotives, wagons—every display case hides train-enthusiasts’ treasures set in a distinctive backdrop. Visitors gasp with awe as they step into Ali Baba’s cave, a faithful recreation of a Paris toy shop from the 1930s.
But the thrills don’t end there: on the second floor stands a vast network where dozens of trains crisscross, and children can set them in motion themselves.
