The Musée de la Toile de Jouy is a must on the fashion itinerary of the Journées du Patrimoine 2026! A true gem of textile history, it was founded in 1977 to celebrate the iconic printed fabric of the same name, born in the 18th century in Jouy-en-Josas, in the Yvelines. This fabric has captivated the world with its poetic universe, brought to life by motifs of pastoral scenes.

In the heart of a charming château, the museum offers a fascinating insight into the world of printed fabrics, the secrets of their manufacture and the great artists of the time. The collections illustrate the evolution of toile de Jouy through the centuries, creating a priceless heritage!

Guided tour of the Amédée Couder exhibition
This exhibition for the first time reveals the work of the draughtsman Amédée Couder (1800-1864) for textile-printing houses, including the one at Jouy, at the dawn of the 19th century. On the cusp of France's industrial rise, the artist was celebrated for transferring the palmette motifs woven into Kashmiri shawls—then in vogue—onto printed textiles.
