Clémence d'Ennery had this magnificent mansion built in 1875, expressly to house her collection of Far Eastern art. A veritable cabinet of art and curiosities, it is the perfect showcase for the pearls in this collection.

A pioneer, Clémence d'Ennery built up her collection even before the vogue for Japonism. Indeed, by the end of the 19th century, the taste for the Far East was spreading like wildfire, and the whole of Europe was vibrating to the tune of Asian art.

The Hôtel d'Ennery, a marvellous private mansion at 59 avenue Foch, is one of the three sites of Guimet - musée national des arts asiatiques. This fabulous cabinet of arts and curiosities, little known to the general public, is a unique testimony to the taste for Japonism at the end of the 19th century. By testamentary disposition, the site has remained unchanged since 1899, with no additions or alterations to break the homogeneity of this singular collection of objets d'art assembled by Clémence d'Ennery, in a place filled with mystery and built specifically to house and exhibit it.
