Jean-Jacques Rousseau from every angle... This is what the Musée Jean-Jacques Rousseau, located in Montmorency in the Val-d'Oise (95), usually offers through its collections and exhibitions. And for the Journées du Patrimoine, history and literature enthusiasts will be able to learn more about one of the most emblematic philosophers of the Enlightenment through tours, workshops and a treasure hunt on September 20 and 21, 2025.
The museum is located in the writer's home, Petit Mont-Louis, and offers tours of his garden, his study and the "Donjon", where Rousseau wrote La Nouvelle Héloïse, Émile ou de l'Éducation and Du Contrat social between 1757 and 1762. The site also hosts exhibitions and other cultural events throughout the year.
And as for the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days), this 42nd edition offers Parisians and Ile-de-France residents, as well as French citizens in the rest of the country, the chance to discover numerous establishments, institutions and other heritage sites free of charge, most of them opening their doors exceptionally for the occasion. A great opportunity to learn more about our history... Enjoying the weekend, friends?

Young and old alike will learn the basics of the art of weaving on looms. Different stitch techniques can be demonstrated, and you can go home with a small wall decoration.
The Musée Jean-Jacques Rousseau invites you to discover elegance in the 18th century. Produced in partnership with La Dame d'Atours, a specialist in historical re-enactment, and with loans from the Musée Cognacq-Jay, this exhibition highlights the transformations in dress of the period through a selection of costumes, accessories, engravings and paintings. Enhanced by playful features, the exhibition invites young and old alike to discover this fascinating era from every angle.
Like real artists, young and old alike take to the Museum's garden to sketch Milthon's sculptures. Equipped with pencils and supports, they are introduced to the techniques of drawing from nature, guided in observation and shaping.
