Heritage Days 2025: discover the CNC Heritage Department

On the occasion of the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) on September 20 and 21, 2025, the CNC's Cinematographic Heritage Department invites you to discover what it is doing to preserve our cinematographic heritage.

Visits, workshops, events, discoveries: during the Journées du Patrimoine weekend, monuments and places of interest all over France are celebrating! You don't need to travel the length and breadth of the country to find interesting sites to visit: in the Île-de-France region, over 1,500 sites are taking part in this major cultural event. And if you live in the Yvelines département, it's even better: museums, castles, churches, farms or vineyards, relics of the past: there's something for every taste, and every age.

Yes, even lovers of the seventh art are in for a treat during these Heritage Days. Several cinemas and centers dedicated to this art welcome the curious on September 20 and 21, 2025.

In Bois d'Arcy, France, the Centre national du Cinéma et de l'image animée(CNC) is taking part in this event, opening the doors of its Cinematographic Heritage Department. The CNC is the main administration governing French cinema. It not only produces and distributes films, but also safeguards and protects them. That's why this visit can help you discover the priceless treasures that make up the history of cinema.

  • CNC: tour of the Directorate of Cinematic Heritage

    Dive into the memory of the seventh art...

    A military battery built in 1874, the Bois d'Arcy site has been devoted since the early 1960s to the preservation of films. The CNC continues its work to conserve, restore, and promote cinema heritage. We invite you to discover this site and the history of cinema through a guided tour of the facilities, including workshop demonstrations and screenings of archival films (about 1 hour 40 minutes).

  • CNC: Mash-Up Workshop — Editing a Film

    Dive into the history of cinema...

    Learn the craft of editing through a playful mash-up workshop, followed by a tour of the Bois d'Arcy site, where we house a vast library of films.

  • CNC: a treasure hunt to trace the evolution of cinema techniques

    Join us on a journey through the technological innovations of cinema from the 19th to the 20th centuries, following a playful trail packed with puzzles to crack a mystery inside the former Bois d'Arcy military battery, a guardian of film archives.
