Organized on the 19 and 20 September 2026 this year, the European Heritage Days return for their 43rd edition with a lineup of excellent visits!

Campaigning with art, from Mireille Miailhe to Lovy Bumma
This round table is part of the inauguration of an exhibition dedicated to the artist Mireille Miailhe. The event offers a chance to explore the role of art in militant activism during the 20th century through the figure of Mireille Miailhe. To that end, Anissa Bouayed, a historian specializing in the social and cultural history of the Maghreb, will discuss Mireille Miailhe's project “Algérie 1952,” which aims to depict Algerian life during the colonial era. Florence Miailhe, artist and filmmaker, will reflect on Mireille Miailhe's life and her activist actions as a throughline. Finally, artist Lovy Bumma will open up the discussion on the place of militancy in 21st-century art through her own artistic experience.

The exhibition of artist Mireille Miailhe unfolds in two parts. First, it traces her years in La Courneuve, offering her perspective on the city. The original paintings on display capture the town’s architecture, its residents, and its workers in the early 1970s. The second part revisits a pivotal moment in the artist’s career: the commission "Algérie 1952," an artistic brief meant to portray Algerian life under colonization.

Exhibition and panel discussion: La Courneuve’s living heritage in 2126, a hybrid future!
Bringing together the National Museum of Natural History, Plaine Commune and a collective of artists (actors, designers, dancers, filmmakers, writers…), the program Fictions d'Anticipation de Renaturation explores Plaine Commune’s future landscapes by placing nature at the heart of popular imagination.
For the European Heritage Days 2026, a new exhibition at the Médiathèque Aimé Césaire showcases work from workshops conducted with the residents of La Courneuve. Illustrations, maps, narratives… discover the collectively envisioned worlds for the city’s future.
