During Paris's Heritage Days, you can explore the treasures of Hôpital Saint-Louis, from its remarkable museum of medical casts to its sublime chapel. Here is the schedule awaiting you for the weekend of September 19–20, 2026, at this surprising gem in the 10th arrondissement of the capital.

The Journées du Patrimoine invite you every year to the first weekend of September for a memorable moment of discovery and new experiences. This unmissable event on the Paris cultural calendar invites us to explore the Île-de-France region, rediscovering its finest treasures in a new light. Each edition comes with a program, often free, rich in visits, workshops and activities designed for all audiences. As a couple, with friends, with family or solo, you won’t want to miss this must-see plan for September in Île-de-France. Many venues take part every year, including museums, monuments, castles, but also places normally closed to the public.

As you’ll have guessed, the Journées du Patrimoine is the moment to explore Paris from every angle. And among the surprising spots you can visit for the occasion are hospitals. This may surprise you, but these institutions are brimming with fascinating treasures. A case in point: the Saint-Louis Hospital, in the 10th arrondissement of the capital. It will take part in the upcoming edition of the Journées du Patrimoine, on the weekend of September 19 and 20, 2026. On that occasion, you can embark on a tour of this historic hospital dating back to the early 17th century, along with its historic chapel and its moulage museum.

Heritage Days 2026 at the Saint-Louis Hospital Chapel

  • Guided Tour of the Chapel at Saint-Louis Hospital

Built starting in 1607 at the initiative of Henry IV, the chapel of Saint-Louis Hospital stands as one of the oldest elements of Paris’s early 17th-century hospital complex, which arose in the wake of plague outbreaks. Set apart within the hospital grounds, it was intended for doctors, nuns, and local residents, while patients prayed in chapels inside the facility.

Listed as a historic monument in 1993, the chapel preserves the memory of a site that is at once hospital, architectural landmark, and spiritual space. The guided tour traces its story—from the laying of its first stone by Henry IV to the latest restoration campaigns—highlighting its 17th-century campanile, a troubadour-style altarpiece, and the refreshed paintings and decorative elements.

Guided tours last about twenty minutes, with groups of around 30 people.
