The Hermitage Oven in Pontoise invites you to tours and crispy tastings for Heritage Days 2026, on September 19 and 20.

Lovers of Impressionist paintings know that many of them, particularly those by Pissarro, Corot, Daumier, Cézanne, Dupré, Daubigny, Piette, Gauguin and Van Gogh, were inspired by the landscapes of Pontoise and the surrounding area.

A visit to Pontoise, Auvers-sur-Oise or l'Isle-Adam is the perfect way to stroll through the gardens and forests that served as models for the greatest painters, and to enjoy the rich and varied flora. But Pontoise is also famous for its market-gardening and wine-growing past, which once flourished around the Hastrel press.

Thus, not far from the last troglodyte houses of L’Hermitage lies the Hermitage kiln, an unusual spot that opens its doors for the Heritage Days 2026, on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20.

An opportunity for bakery enthusiasts to roll up their sleeves and bake a traditional loaf... before tasting it, of course! Discover the detailed program of the Heritage Days 2026 at the Hermitage oven below!

Heritage Days 2026 at the Hermitage Oven in Pontoise:

  • Heritage Bread

As every year, the Hermitage oven is brought up to temperature starting Wednesday, September 16 at around 9 a.m. and remains hot until Friday the 18th at about 6:30 p.m. The kiln dome reaches roughly 300 C. Fresh dough from the night arrives on site around 9 a.m. Saturday morning to bake the first batches of the weekend. The doughs brought by residents are also baked with the oven closed. Meanwhile, a full night is needed to cook the Baekeoffe. At the end of the event, residents finish the pizzas with ingredients brought on site.
