Lovers of Impressionist paintings know that many of them, particularly those by Pissarro, Corot, Daumier, Cézanne, Dupré, Daubigny, Piette, Gauguin and Van Gogh, were inspired by the landscapes of Pontoise and the surrounding area.
A visit to Pontoise, Auvers-sur-Oise or l'Isle-Adam is the perfect way to stroll through the gardens and forests that served as models for the greatest painters, and to enjoy the rich and varied flora. But Pontoise is also famous for its market-gardening and wine-growing past, which once flourished around the Hastrel press.
Not far from the last troglodytic houses of the Hermitage is the Hermitage oven, an unusual place that opens its doors for the Journées du Patrimoine 2025, on Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21.
It's an opportunity for bakery enthusiasts to get their hands dirty and bake bread the old-fashioned way... before enjoying it, of course! Discover the detailed program of the Journées du Patrimoine 2025 at the Hermitage bakery below!
After the Hermitage oven was brought up to temperature from around 9am on Wednesday September 17, 2025 to around 6pm on Friday September 19, 2025, followed by a talk on baking bread the old-fashioned way, the dough was tested to ensure a first batch around 12pm on Saturday September 20, offering the public (350 - 500 visitors) the bread of our heritage. Local residents are invited to bake their own dough for bread, pizza or potée. A pizza will be offered to volunteers, residents and officials at the end of the event at around 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 21.
