Notre-Dame de Consolation church
Guided tour of Notre-Dame de Consolation Church in Le Raincy
The Notre-Dame de Consolation of the Raincy stands as the world’s first church built entirely in reinforced concrete. A major work by architect Auguste Perret, it celebrated its centenary on June 18, 2023.
Listed as a Historic Monument since 1966, it is recognized worldwide as a landmark of 20th‑century architecture, often hailed by Le Corbusier as “the Sainte-Chapelle of reinforced concrete.”
During this tour, discover how a bold, innovative architect and renowned artists—Maurice Denis, Antoine Bourdelle, and Marguerite Huré—managed to create a monument in just thirteen months of work!
Your guide will explain how Auguste Perret married his architectural talents with the potential of reinforced concrete to design a large-scale religious building on a notably tight budget.
You’ll also be introduced to Marguerite Huré’s magnificent glass-work ensemble, which adorns all of the church’s walls and floods them with color. Special commentary will focus on the ten figurative stained-glass panels drawn by Maurice Denis, including the one commemorating the departure of the taxis of the Marne toward the Battle of the Ourcq.
These insights come from volunteers with the RESTAURER Notre-Dame du Raincy association, who will share their passion during this guided tour.
