L'Hôtel d'Avaray is a stunning hôtel particulier perched at 85 rue de Grenelle in Paris's 7th arrondissement. Built in the eighteenth century, the building epitomizes the neoclassical architecture of its era. Today, the Hôtel d'Avaray serves as the residence of the ambassador of the Netherlands to France. As a diplomatic residence, it is generally not open to the public, but it will open its doors for Heritage Days on Saturday, September 19, for a self-guided visit.
Hôtel d'Avaray was built starting in 1718 by architect Jean-Baptiste Leroux. Over the centuries, it changed hands and underwent alterations, but it has always retained its original charm. This prestigious townhouse has been protected as a historic monument since 1926. The Heritage Days 2026 in Paris are therefore an opportunity to discover this Parisian landmark, usually closed to the public, during an open visit!

The grand salons on the ground floor have regained their luster following a complete renovation in 2017. Nestled between the courtyard and a lush garden, the architecture subtly toys with the visitor, while every element of the interior layout—fixtures or furnishings—not only adds to the venue’s splendor but also tells a chapter of its fascinating history.
Participation requirements: Access: a roughly 1-hour self-guided visit, with time slots available from 10:00 to 17:00. Free but mandatory registrations. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
