Need a cultural (and royal) break? The European Heritage Days are back on September 20 and 21, 2025, with their share of surprises and discoveries. The idea? Get off the beaten track and delve into the hidden (or not) treasures of Europe's heritage. Museums, gardens, unusual places or rarely accessible private mansions... for two days, art, history andarchitecture invite themselves into your diary, free of charge (or at a preferential rate, as here)! The perfect opportunity to slow down, open your eyes wide, and explore the cultural heritage that shapes our landscape.
Among the little-known places not to be missed, head for the Yvelines (78), to theHôtel de Noailles, located in the charming commune of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. This masterpiece by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, Louis XIV's star architect, was built between 1679 and 1682 for Marshal Anne-Jules de Noailles. This jewel of the Grand Siècle boasts 18th-century woodwork, listed gardens and even 3D reconstructions for a unique historical experience. A Mecca of the Enlightenment, it was home to Mozart, Bach and the intellectual elite of the century. Even though a central part of the hotel was amputated when the Rue d'Alsace was built in 1836, it has retained its north and south pavilions, the duchess's apartment, listed salons, stables and corner pavilions. All this in the heart of a former aristocratic estate whose alleys, now streets, still whisper of past elegance.
