At Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse in the Yvelines, the Fondation de Coubertin is taking part in the Journées du Patrimoine 2025 on Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21. This exceptional 30-hectare estate unveils its bronze garden and a tribute trail for visitors to discover.
The Journées du Patrimoine 2025 are an opportunity to discover one of Yvelines' best-kept treasures. Located in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, in the department 78, the Fondation Coubertin estate is exceptionally opening its doors to the general public for this not-to-be-missed cultural event. This workers' university , unique in France, reveals its many facets: historical heritage, artistic collections and exceptional craftsmanship.
Immerse yourself in five centuries of history by discovering this estate which was owned by the Fredy de Coubertin family for four hundred years. Château de Coubertin, built at the end of the 17th century and listed as a Historic Monument since 1945, now houses a museum recognized asa "Musée de France". This beautiful classical residence, accessible via a majestic avenue of lime trees, preserves and displays an exceptional collection of sculptures and drawings dating from the late 19th century to the present day.
In 1974, Yvonne de Coubertin, niece of Pierre de Coubertin, creator of the modern Olympic Games, bequeathed this "privileged piece of Creation" to the Foundation she had created in 1950 with Jean Bernard, son of sculptor Joseph Bernard. This encounter gave birth to a unique institution dedicated to training young craftsmen in heritage and art trades.
The highlight of the visit is the bronze garden. This former walled flower garden has become an exceptional permanent exhibition space dedicated to sculpture. We stroll along this unique artistic trail, where works of art interact with the surrounding natural environment. Sculptures by Joseph Bernard, a central figure in the collections, stand side by side with contemporary creations in a constant dialogue between tradition and modernity.
The 30-hectare park extends far beyond this privileged garden. The Grandes Sculptures are scattered along the shady paths, creating an exceptional cultural promenade. This landscaped setting transforms artistic discovery into a true sensory experience, particularly appreciated on fine September days.

On the occasion of European Heritage Days, the Fondation de Coubertin Museum opens its doors.
This year, come and discover or rediscover the museum’s permanent collections, the estate grounds, and its Jardin des Bronzes. The selection of drawings by Joseph Bernard, displayed in the château’s rooms, will be refreshed.
This weekend will also mark the final days of the exhibition Faits et Gestes, organized by the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Natural Park, bringing together photographs by Bernard Sustrac and texts by Pascale Petit exploring the region’s trades.
A conference will outline the history and missions of the Fondation de Coubertin, the training it provides each year to young professionals in the field, and the work of its ateliers. Further information will be announced soon on the museum’s website.
