The Potager du Dauphin, in Meudon, Hauts-de-Seine (92), is on the list of places well worth a visit. This historic park, imagined by the Marquis de Louvois, minister of Louis XIV, originally had a royal vocation: to supply the monarch's table. Today, this jewel of greenery lining the avenue du Château de Meudon reveals its elegance behind high walls. Between its 19th-century bourgeois villa and its rolling park, the site exudes a timeless charm.
Since 2008, it has been home to theHôtel des Métiers d'Art de Meudon. Fourteen exceptional workshops work on the creation and restoration of objets d'art, with the mission of preserving and transmitting rare know-how.
To mark the award of the Remarkable Contemporary Architecture labelto the Prouvé houses in the Cité Sans Souci by the French Ministry of Culture, the Potager du Dauphin is honoring Jean Prouvé and the Prouvé houses in Meudon.
Vitra & Prouvé
A chair by Jean Prouvé marks the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between the French designer and furniture manufacturer Vitra. Twenty years on, the collaboration with Prouvé's heirs remains just as vibrant: Vitra has updated the collection with new colors and a number of little-known new models.
An immersion in Prouvé's design: living room, TV corner, terrace, office corner: the Prouvé collection by Vitra, furniture that has become both iconic and lesser-known, will grace the salon d'honneur of the Hôtel des métiers d'art during these exceptional days.
Continue your discovery of the houses of Meudon Jean Prouvé in the Saint-Georges chapel of the Potager du Dauphin, exceptionally open with an exhibition of photographs by Emanuele Piccardo "La cité Sans Souci". And make the most of the many events, meetings and visits to the Potager du Dauphin.
In partnership with Vitra.
Thanks to the Sans Souci association and the houses' co-owners, the "Maisons Prouvé" in Meudon have been awarded the Remarkable Contemporary Architecture label by the French Ministry of Culture. This year's European Heritage Days, on the theme of architectural heritage, are an opportunity to understand Jean Prouvé's major contribution to urban design and construction, and the originality of the Métropole and Coque houses in Meudon, which became almost unique after the industrial-scale manufacturing project was abandoned. Understanding Jean Prouvé's remarkable vision of construction, design and production management sheds light on many aspects of post-war architecture, in particular the immense need for (re)construction at the time. The conferences, led by various specialists in Prouvé's architecture and work, open the European Heritage Days weekend, and are illustrated by an exhibition of furniture from the Vitra House of Prouvé design at the Potager du Dauphin.

The Chapelle Saint-Georges, painted by Father Igor Sendler in 1962 in the Russian Byzantine style, was completely restored in 2025. The quality of its restoration was recognized with a departmental Rubans du Patrimoine award.
You can discover the interior of the chapel and its set of murals painted in the Russian school by one of the Jesuit fathers of the Institut Saint-Georges, Egon Sendler (1923-2014).
Set up in 1956 as the St. George boarding school by the community of Jesuit fathers for the protection and education of Russian immigrant children after the Russian civil war in 1921, the chapel was decorated with its religious frescoes in 1962. Today, it is one of the most tangible reminders of the influence of the Saint-Georges boarding school, present in the Potager du Dauphin from 1946 to 2002, and an example of the strength of spiritual exchange between Catholic and Orthodox Christian denominations.
The Atelier d'icônes de Meudon, founded by the great master iconographer, Igor Sendler, perpetuates, with the greatest respect for his teaching, a vision and know-how where technique and materials have maintained a unity for almost two thousand years. Dedicated to learning Byzantine iconography, it organizes icon courses and workshops in Meudon and regularly offers guided tours of the Chapel.
During the European Heritage Days, the chapel is open to the public from 11am to 1pm and from 2pm to 7pm. In addition, 3 guided tours by the Atelier d'icônes de Meudon are organized, subject to availability:
- Saturday September 20 at 5.30pm
- Sunday September 21 at 3pm and 5pm (with a change of schedule: the concert initially scheduled to take place outdoors will now take place in the chapel at 4pm).
Please note that in the event of bad weather, open-air concerts will be held in the chapel.
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, Lillia Baudo, master fresco artist, shares her ancestral fresco skills.
Set up with her easel, she revives the a fresco technique, painting directly on fresh plaster before the public's very eyes.
Her demonstration, lively and accessible to all, allows visitors to discover the precise gestures, the preparation of the plaster and the art of natural pigments, in a privileged exchange with the artist.https://www.lilliabaudo.com/d-tails-et-inscription/journees-europeennes-du-patrimoine-1
