The Journées du Patrimoine 2023 are the perfect opportunity to (re)discover Paris and its unusual historic buildings. The Musée des Moulages de l'Hôpital Saint-Louis is one of these surprising and little-known historic sites. This year, the Hôpital Saint-Louis welcomes you on Saturday September 16 and Sunday September 17, 2023 for an exceptional discovery of its pathological waxworks.
Here's an outing that should surprise even the most seasoned of visitors: Hôpital Saint-Louis, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, hides a very special museum. This collection is dedicated to a very special art of medicine . Come and admire the wax casts made by Jules Baretta and his successors. Although they no longer form part of the teaching aids for dermatology, they remain a decisive element in the history of medicine and the representation of the sick man, as much as an artistic heritage to be preserved.
This collection, the largest of its kind in the world, brings together 4,800 wax casts created between 1867 and 1958 by the hospital's doctors for their dermatology courses. Classified by pathology, these casts show skin diseases... An ideal visit for medical students, but not only!
Make the most of it: the museum is usually only open on weekdays, by reservation. Not recommended for children under 12.
