After about twenty days on lockdown in France, different deconfinement scenarios are being considered. Among them is the one about a deconfinement by age group: the youngest and least vulnerable would be the first ones allowed out.

The coronavirus outbreak seems to slow down in France: an encouraging analysis after twenty days on lockdown. While spring break is starting, authorities fear a slackening from French who could then compromise the effectiveness of confinement. The Police authorities reminded on Sunday April 5, 2020 that leaving on holidays was forbidden.

While the strategy consisting in flattening the curve seems to pay off, different deconfinement scenarios are being considered. One certitude: the method would be gradual. Among the hypothesis that could be implemented is a deconfinement by age group. It would allow the youngest and least vulnerable to go out first.

A method that, according to Martin Blanchier, a doctor interviewed by RTL, would be doable. Allowing the least vulnerable profiles out could allow to create a group immunity enabling to protect the most fragile ones. A scenario that could take place on the condition hospitals are not overcrowded: if the risk is low about the youngest age group, we should yet expect cases requiring breathing support.
