Beware, pollution is likely to be more intense than usual in the Île-de-France region this Friday, July 19, 2024. Due to poor weather conditions, Airparif, the air quality observatory for the Paris region, is announcing a new episode ofOzone O3 pollution this Wednesday in Paris, as well as throughout theÎle-de-France region.
"Summer weather conditions will be conducive to ozone formation. Concentrations will be sustained, with a risk of exceeding the information threshold. Air quality will be degraded to poor in Ile-de-France," warns Airparif.
During these pollution episodes, it is generally recommended to postpone road travel in the Île-de-France region if possible, to use the least polluting vehicles, and to give priority to carpooling, public transport and active modes of transport, such as walking or cycling.
It is also advisable to reduce vehicle speeds throughout the Île-de-France region to 110 km/h on freeways normally limited to 130 km/h, to 90 km/h on freeways and expressways normally limited to 110 km/h and to 70 km/h on freeways and expressways normally limited to 90 km/h, as well as on national and departmental roads limited to 80 km/h or 90 km/h.
In the event of an O3 pollution episode, the health authorities' recommendations are as follows:
During these pollution episodes, the French Ministry of Health recommends that vulnerable and sensitive people (pregnant women, people suffering from cardiovascular pathologies, asthma sufferers, etc.) prefer shorter outings and those requiring the least effort, as well as avoiding areas with heavy road traffic, especially during peak periods.
Finally, for the rest of the population, the Ministry advises reducing or even postponing intense physical and sporting activities.
