Chassé-croisé: black Saturday on the roads, "the most difficult day of the summer" according to Bison Futé

Bison Futé is forecasting very difficult traffic conditions for the traditional summer vacation "chassé-croisé" on Saturday August 5, 2023, with the day classified as black in the departure direction, particularly in the Paris region. So take care on the roads.

After the Julyers, we welcome the Augusters to the roads! But be careful at the wheel, as traffic looks set to be very busy all day on Saturday August 5, 2023, classified as black in the direction of departure in the Île-de-France region and throughout the country, according to Bison Futé. Already last weekend, the whole country was classified red for this first departure weekend of the month, but it's this Saturday's chassé-croisé that promises to be the most complicated and busy on the roads. According to Bison Futé, we can even expect"the most difficult day of the summer".

Many kilometers of traffic jams are still expected, particularly on the main roads in the Paris region. Bison Futé warns that"major traffic flows will cause very difficult traffic conditions on the country's main connecting routes". As far as the return journey is concerned, it's best to get back to Paris before 2 p.m. this Saturday, as the day is still classified as orange in that direction.

Access to major cities will be difficult, so it's advisable to take the road after 1 p.m. in the Île-de-France region, to avoid untimely stops as much as possible. Sunday is orange all over France, but be especially careful on Monday, with the whole Rhône-Alpes Auvergne region classified red.

In the direction of departure this Saturday:

  • leave or cross the Paris region before 6 a.m. or after 1 p.m. ;
  • avoid the A10 freeway between Orléans and Bordeaux between 7am and 7pm;
  • avoid the A7 freeway, between Lyon and Orange, from 5am to 6pm;
  • avoid the A9 freeway, between Montpellier and Narbonne, from 8am to 5pm;
  • avoid the A71 freeway, near Clermont-Ferrand, from 8am to 10am;
  • avoid the A75 freeway, between Clermont-Ferrand and Montpellier, from 8am to 3pm;
  • avoid the A61 freeway, between Toulouse and Narbonne, from 10am to 1pm;
  • avoid the A43 freeway, between Lyon and Chambéry, from 11am to 1pm;
  • avoid the A63 freeway, between Bordeaux and Bayonne, from 7am to 7pm;
  • avoid the A20 freeway, between Limoges and Brive-la-Gaillarde, from 11am to 5pm;
  • avoid the N165, between Nantes and Quimper, from 11am to 8pm;
  • access to Italy via the Mont-Blanc tunnel (N205), traffic saturated from 11am to 4pm

Between the heat in one part of the country and the risk of precipitation and thunderstorms in the other, make sure you take breaks every two hours, stay sufficiently hydrated, change drivers regularly if possible, and above all, stay alert at the wheel. Good luck on the roads!
