Navigo Pass refund extended until April 20, 2023 for affected users in the Paris region. Find out the conditions and how to benefit from it.

The Navigo Pass refund is a compensatory measure implemented following the deterioration of transport services in the Île-de-France region during the fall of 2022. This measure allows affected users to benefit from a refund of 37.60 euros, the equivalent of half a month's normal Navigo pass fare. Initially scheduled to expire on April 14, the deadline for filing a claim has been extended to April 20, 2023.

In December 2022, the president of the Île-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, spoke of the disastrous situation that RATP, and especially its users, had been suffering for several months. In her speech, she acknowledged the"brutal degradation of the quality [des] of transport on certain lines" and explained that RATP would suffer heavy penalties. She addedthat "it would be fair for these penalties to be returned to you as compensation". On Thursday, February 9, 2023, Valérie Pécresse confirmed that in March, RATP was going to pay users 60 million euros, or 37.60 euros per user with a Navigo pass.

With theincrease in the price of the pass, this amount no longer covers even half of a monthly fare. But that's still a bonus for regular subscribers, who can be compensated for the daily hassles of using public transport. Between delays, breakdowns, service cancellations and operating difficulties, users are hoping for an improvement in traffic over the next few months, while the crisis should be resolved by April, according to Jean Castex, the new director general of the RATP group.

This extension of the application deadline also applies to RER B and D users affected by the service problems. For the latter, the reimbursement can reach up to 112.80 euros if they present a certificate from their home or employer proving regular use of the routes concerned and that they have purchased monthly tickets during periods when the quality of service was below 80% (1).

To date, nearly 1.4 million of the 3.4 million eligible monthly and annual subscribers have already applied for and received a refund. The regional transport authority Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) has decided to extend the opening of its compensation platform by one week, which was initially scheduled to close on 14 April. This exceptional compensation, for a total amount of 60 million euros, will compensate for half a month's subscription for Navigo pass holders who bought three monthly passes in the last four months of 2022, from September to December.

As a reminder, 25% of the planned buses did not run on the RATP surface network during the last four months of the year, as well as 10 to 20% of the metros. Some users of the RER B (four sections) and D (one section) will benefit from additional compensation, worth €7 million, due to regularity of less than 80% on their route for several months.

If you are eligible for this Pass Navigo reimbursement, take advantage of this extension to file your claim. Don't delay, the deadline expires on April 20, 2023.
