On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, France celebrates the 10th anniversary of marriage for all. On this occasion, the City of Paris is organizing celebrations throughout the day. On the program? An international conference at the Hôtel de Ville, a ceremony to award the LGBTQI+ Prize of Paris and a big ball!

It was 10 years ago. The " law opening marriage to same-sex couples " was definitively adopted on May 17, 2013. At the time, this law on marriage for all allowed France to become the 9th European country and the 14th country in the world to allow same-sex marriage.

Quickly, marriages of same-sex couples multiplied in the country. Thus, in 2014, they represented 4% of all unions. But it is the City of Paris that marries the most LGBT couples in the country. In 2022, 601 marriages of same-sex couples were recorded, or 7.1% of unions. And since the adoption of the law on marriage for all, 2,365 unions have been celebrated in Paris!

So the City of Paris has decided to celebrate the 10th anniversary of marriage for all through celebrations to be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. " Its anniversary is an opportunity to mark the deep attachment of Paris to equal rights and to make it a moment of reflection, joy and collective sharing," explains the Paris City Hall on its website. The date of May 17 was not chosen at random, since it is also the world day against homophobia, transphobia and biphobia.

So what celebrations can we expect in the capital on May 17, 2023? The City of Paris is betting on an ambitious and eclectic program under the banner of " remembrance, celebration, reflection ". Also, theHôtel de Ville will host a major international conference on the theme " Marriage for all, 10 years later: in France and around the world, where do we stand? This will be an opportunity to take a look at the progress of marriage and LGBTQIA+ rights around the world. To animate the conference, activists, brides and grooms and French and international political personalities will be present.

Another event proposed that day? An award ceremony for the Paris 2023 LGBTQI+ Prize. As a reminder, this prize rewards personalities who fight for the rights of LGBTQI+ people in France and internationally. This year, the jury will be chaired by the American Stuart Milk.

Finally, in terms of festive events, the City of Paris plans to organize a popular ball, whose location has yet to be determined. According to BFMTV and Actu Paris, a race in high heels should also take place on rue de Rivoli. So stay tuned to discover the detailed program of these celebrations imagined in Paris for the 10th anniversary of the marriage for all.
